On March 30, we aired the third episode of Mevea Tech Talk, a series which focuses on the applications and benefits of Digital Twins across industries. Our first and second episodes were about Digital Twins in Hydrogen-Powered Heavy Equipment Development, and Digital Twins in Electrical Driveline Conceptual Design, respectively.
Developing new features into an existing control system or adapting completely new systems into new machinery, sometimes yet to be even released, can be a daunting task, and often requires careful planning, extensive testing, and simulations. With physics-based Digital Twins, the control system can be seamlessly integrated into a virtual representation of a given machine. The state-of-the-art physics, driveline, and hydraulics modelling provides all the necessary sensor sources and offers the control interface to be comparable to that of the real machine.
The third episode focused on Control System Integration With Physics-Based Digital Twin(s) In Product Development. We were joined once again by Dr. Jarkko Nokka, Technical Project Manager at Mevea. He has done his academic research on the topic of using Digital Twins as an early-stage evaluation tool in dimensioning diesel-electric hybrid drivelines for heavy mobile machinery; his research at Lappeenranta University of Technology is available here.
