Mevea joined the 2nd Autonomous Off-Highway Machinery Technology Summit which took place in Munich, Germany, on February 21-22, 2024.
The summit served as a platform for knowledge exchange among industry leaders, manufacturers, technical solution providers, and end-users. Attendees explored the latest advancements in autonomous off-highway vehicles and robotics, while also networking with various stakeholders.
During the Summit Mevea’s Senior Technical Advisor, Dr. Asko Rouvinen presented how advanced simulation, i.e. physics based digital twin can be used in assistive and autonomous system development and what benefits could be achieved.
Two concrete examples presented were SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping) application development and real-time simulation of structural flexibility.
In the video (above) the wheel loader with two LiDARs and odometer sensor is running in Unity visualization. Sensor signals utilize standard ROS (Robot Operating System) messages. LiDAR point cloud visualization includes deformable soil on ROS 3D Rviz visualizer.
Mevea’s sales director, Mr. Raimo Nikkilä, joined the Summit’s panel discussion about “automating machines to prepare for 4.0” with four other industry experts, who were Prof. Dr. Timo Oksanen (Technical University of Munich), Mel Torrie (Autonomous Solutions, Inc.), Edwin Azzam (Stereolabs) and Dr. Luca Ferrari (CNH Industrial). The four topics of the panel discussion were:
– Sensor suite to gather data, analytics, and software
– Regulatory challenges
– Machine applications
– Challenges in automating equipment to get ready for 4.0.
